Poinsettias are a classic and beautiful addition to any winter decorating. This Christmas season try a twist on traditional by creating a beautiful centerpiece with poinsettias and foraged items right out of your back yard. Take the family for a walk and bring some clippers!
What you’ll need:
Be Creative! The list above is just a
guideline. If you are inspired by Sitka Spruce or wild Salal, go for it! This
DIY project can be molded to any style you see fit.
How
to:
Step
1. Go for a walk! Take some time and forage for the
most ascetically pleasing twigs, cones and berries.
Step
2. Cone prep! Pierce cone with wire or try and
discretely wrap wire around the base of the cone. Make sure the wire is long
enough to push through moss while maintaining height within your centerpiece.
Step
3. Start by repotting the Poinsettia. Plant it in
the middle of the pot so you can add foraged items around the center. If the
pot doesn’t have a drainage hole, add 1 inch layer of rocks to create humidity
for the roots and to help with drainage.
Step
4. Add moss to cover the soil.
Step
5. Clip twigs on a diagonal so that they can have a
higher water intake. This will also help to easily push the twigs through the
moss and into the soil.
Step
6. Start adding greenery close to the outer rim of
the pot and work in a circular rotation inwards adding greens to your
centerpiece.
Step
7. Next, add colour with the berries and cones.
Voila! This easy and creative centerpiece
will add love and warmth to any room. It’s also a great excuse to get outside
and spend time with the family. Come
